EnkaRadonVent

Reliable radon and moisture mitigation

Radon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless radioactive gas generated by the natural decay of uranium that is found in nearly all soils. It typically moves up through the ground and into a house or building, where it is trapped and continues to build up. Radon is the second most common cause of lung cancer. EnkaRadonVent has been developed to intercept radon and prevent its leading to health problems for occupants.

At the same time, EnkaRadonVent mitigates moisture rise which can negatively affect building foundations.

This is EnkaRadonVent

EnkaRadonVent mats are high-performance building composites. They consist of a 0.8 or 0.9 inch/20 or 23 mm thick matrix of entangled polyamide filaments which forms the core and air space of the product. This matrix is either fully encapsulated in nonwoven polyester fabric, or connected to a nonwoven on one face only. The different types were developed to facilitate their applications with prefabricated concrete slabs and in situ poured concrete alike. The fabric on the lower face separates the underlying soil and aggregate from the core, thus ensuring that the air space remains free from clogging. In applications where the encapsulated product type is used, the cement milk-tight fabric prevents cement from entering the core. Although EnkaRadonVent is very lightweight and easy-to-handle, it withstands the weight of concrete floors without being significantly compressed.

How EnkaRadonVent is used for radon and moisture control

The three-dimensional structure of EnkaRadonVent is very open. The radon mat’s void space exceeds 95 %, which allows radon and air to flow in every direction. Airflow rates significantly exceed those of commonly used aggregate. The result: radon levels are reduced by up to 97 %. Additionally, the circulation of air helps minimize moisture and keep the building dry. EnkaRadonVent also efficiently vents hydrocarbon gases from the soil.

What makes EnkaRadonVent the ideal reinforcement for crack-free subfloors

Features:

  • Over 95 % of void space for free flow of radon and air
