THE CHALLENGE
Zinc roofs on five buildings at the University of West Oahu in Hawaii were corroding and unlikely to last their 100-year design lifespan. So the university sought a roof system with ventilation to reduce the condensation trapped behind the zinc panels, speeding up corrosion. It also needed to cut cooling costs.
THE ENKA SOLUTION
Our Enkamat ASV 7010 material is ideal for zinc roofs because it prevents white rust caused by condensation. And by creating airspace of less than ¾ of an inch lowers the roof temperature from between 22°C and 43°C. The three-dimensional nylon matrix structure is made from fused, entangled filaments – with 95% open matting. This provides continuous air and water flow, so there is less chance of damage caused by corrosion, rot, mold, and mildew.
INSTALLATION BENEFITS & RESULTS
As well as solving the corrosion and cooling cost issues, we were able to halve rainfall noise. The American-made EnkaMat metal roof ventilation product has once again proven itself as a flexible, durable material in even the most extreme environments.
