Enka Technology

Enka Solutions in its purest form is a 3D matrix mat consisting of polymeric filaments that fuse where they cross. The technology behind the 3D concept was incepted by our pioneering engineers in the late 1960’s and has developed ever since, making smart combinations with other materials and adding new technologies. As such, Enka Solutions has set the standard for many applications with products that are considered benchmark today.

Mat configurations

The Enka Solutions 3D matrices are manufactured from polymer monofilaments in different weights and thicknesses and shaped to different profiles, to meet requirements for strength, flexibility, flow rates, compressibility, or other specifications. They can be compounded to achieve a.o. flame retardancy, UV-stability, or color.

Properties

  • Polymers: polypropylene, polyester, and polyamide with additives to requirements
  • Pyramid, waffle, U- and V-shaped profiles
  • Thicknesses up to 22 mm featuring an openness of up to 95%

Combinations

Enka Solutions 3D matrices can be combined with nonwoven and woven technical textiles, adding functionalities. These textiles are attached to one or both faces of the mat through thermal bonding, spot-welding, gluing, or stitching.

To create a full range of solutions to challenges in the geotechnical market, proprietary technologies were developed to manufacture geogrids and prefabricated vertical drains (PVD’s).

Properties

  • Geogrids: extruded polymeric straps, laser-bonded and optionally glued to a nonwoven fabric, or aramid grids embedded in proprietary nonwovens
  • Prefabricated vertical drains (PVD’s): uniquely shaped core from recycled plastics, thermally bonded to nonwovens on both faces.
